The Snorkel filling system was an introduction by Sheaffer in 1952 and ran until 1959. The system was an upgrade of the pneumatic Touchdown system with the added feature that unscrewing the blindcap extends a slim snorkel from the feed allowing the user to fill the pen without submerging the nib. This system provides cleaner filling and ease of use.
The Snorkel pens came in a variety of models and colors. This Admiral (no white dot, plastic cap, and open gold nib) in buckskin can be dated to between 1957 and 1959 based on the fact that it has a colour matched section.
